R. D. Taylor Sr. started the company in Anaheim, California in 1949, building hand carts to use while feeding his chickens. In 1951, he built his first electric truck. Fred A. Dunn joined the firm in 1951, which became Taylor-Dunn Manufacturing Company in 1952. In 2016, Polaris Inc. purchased the company, and in 2022, sold it to a group of former Polaris executives, operating under the name Waev, Inc.
