Description
John W. Stoddard founded the Dayton Motor Car Company in Dayton, Ohio, in 1905. . Stoddard established a reputation as winning race cars. In 1909, a Stoddard-Dayton won the first race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the first pace car ever was a Stoddard-Dayton in 1911. In 1912, Stoddard-Dayton became part of the United States Motor Company, which went bankrupt in 1913. Maxwell Motor Company purchased the assets of the Dayton Motor Car Company continued to offer the Stoddard-Dayton models for a year. Chrysler Corporation acquired Maxwell in 1925.
